This PowerPoint presentation covers the basic functions and purposes involved with Microsoft Word. In this presentation you will find information that will assist you in effectively using Microsoft Word. The file labelled "Check Your Understanding of Basic Word Processing" corresponds with this PowerPoint. The file contains questions that you will answer using Microsoft Word. HINT: The answers are in the PowerPoint called "word-2010".

This exercise will familiarize you with the the taskbar in Microsoft Word. You will need to understand the function of each of the labelled items.



Introduction Exercise

This exercise will familiarize you with the most basic information that you will need to know when starting out in Microsoft Word.



Spell Check 1

This exercise will go over the basics of spell check in Microsoft Word. This function comes in handy when writing letters, reports, etc.



Spell Check 2

This exercise will go deeper into the capabilities of the spell check and grammar check functions in Microsoft Word.



Formatting 1

This exercise will provide you with the basics necessary to properly format in Microsoft Word.



Formatting 2

This exercise will provide you with the basics necessary to properly format in Microsoft Word.



Tables 2

This exercise will go over more basics involved with creating tables in Microsoft Word.

Here is the evaluation that will be used on most of these documents:



Self Collage

Using Microsoft Word, create a collage that uses images from clip art and the internet to introduce yourself. Use word art for any words that you would like to include on the assignment. Be sure to follow this evaluation as a checklist to ensure you are covering all criteria. This assignment is all about how well you can demonstrate your image editing and formatting skills.



Creating a Flyer

Using Microsoft Word, create a flyer advertising for an event of your choice. This event can be real or fictional. If your can't think of an event, think of events that are happening in and around our school. Your flyer must include:
-Images
-A border
-Use of shapes
-Word Art for the title of the event
-A description of the even, where it is, when it is, contact information

Here are a few samples to follow:



Borders, textboxes, framing, and artistic effects

Following the directions that we reviewed in class, choose an image to alter in Microsoft Word using its different functions to look like this document. Here are the guidelines.

-You choose one picture and copy it 8 times onto the same page.
-You are to use a different artistic effect and framing style for each separate image.
-You must label which type of effect and frame you decide to use in a text box below the image.
-Your page must include a border.
